SPF analyzer

Inspect a domain’s SPF record.

Evaluate a sending IP (optional)

To evaluate a real SMTP transaction, enter its sending IP, envelope sender and HELO name. Values left blank use test defaults and may change the result. For a null sender, enter <> and use the actual HELO name as the domain above.

Some SPF policies place the supplied sender or IP address in DNS queries, where DNS operators may see those values. Use test details if sensitive.

Your input is processed by this site to return the result. Avoid entering sensitive information.

What does this tool do?

Sender Policy Framework (SPF) publishes authorized sending sources for a domain in DNS.

Why is it useful?

A correct SPF configuration helps receiving systems evaluate whether a sending server is authorized. It is one part of email authentication and can help meet applicable sender requirements.

How to use it

  1. Inventory all services that send email for your domain.
  2. Enter the domain into the analyzer and inspect its published SPF record.
  3. Compare the result with your providers’ instructions and test changes before enforcing them.

What the result can and cannot tell you

SPF alone does not authenticate the visible From address or guarantee delivery. A DNS record check cannot prove every message is correctly authenticated.

Sender requirements and compliance

Mailbox providers have their own rules, which may depend on sending volume and recipient type. For example, Gmail's requirements for bulk senders to personal Gmail accounts include SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Consult the current provider guidance and test your actual messages; a record lookup alone is not a compliance assessment.
